This function should be called after initializing a cURL session and all the options for the session are set.

On success, this function flushes the result directly to the `stdout` and returns ENTITY, ENTITY. However, if the `CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER` option is [set](#function.curl-setopt), it will return the result on success, ENTITY on failure.

If `CURLOPT_FILE` or `CURLOPT_WRITEFUNCTION` is set, the result is written to that file or passed to that callback instead, nothing is written to `stdout`, and ENTITY is returned on success. Whichever of these options and `CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER` was set last decides where the result goes.

> [!NOTE]
> Note that response status codes which indicate errors (such as `404 Not found`) are not regarded as failure. `curl_getinfo` can be used to check for these.
